About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

19-year-old Woman Dies in Cottonwood Canyon

The body of a woman reported lost on Sunday night was found today in Big Cottonwood Canyon in Utah. She apparently died after falling 80 to 100 feet off of a steep part of the trail.

The 19-year-old woman was hiking with a group when she stopped near Moss Ledge to take photos. She was shortly separated from the group. When the group returned to look for her, they were unable to locate the woman and they called authorities around 9 p.m.

Her body was found 10 a.m. Monday morning. Rescue teams are retrieving her body 2,000 feet above the canyon’s ground level.
