About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

19-year-old Woman Found After Two Days in Wilderness

A 19-year-old woman from Cashmere was found cold, tired and thirsty, but uninjured after being lost for two days near Lake Minotaur in Washington.

The woman, Anna Joy Robinson, went for an afternoon hike on Saturday and was reported missing during the evening by her father. Search and rescue, including three search dogs and community volunteers, came up empty during the search. A helicopter finally spotted the woman one mile from the trailhead this morning.

Robinson apparently hiked up the trail and was hiking in snow – where she eventually lost the trail and her way back to the trailhead. I’m not sure if she weighed 10 pounds and didn’t leave footprints, or if it was windy, but I don’t understand how she couldn’t retrace her steps. Apparently the trail was rough and steep. Still can’t figure it out.

She had plenty of water, but no food. All-in-all she is in good health.
