OREGON – Search and rescue teams in Clackamas County in Oregon are looking for a 16-year-old boy who was swept down the Sandy River (pictured above).
Patrick Monteith and three of his friends were camping on property owned by one of the boys. In the afternoon, the boys attempted to cross the river. His friends say Patrick is not a good swimmer and he was swept away “freefalling” down the river towards a log jam.
Searchers came up empty in their efforts on Saturday. The search continued Sunday with ground crews and a helicopter searching for the boy.
Complicating the search efforts is the swift, cold and treacherous terrain around the Sandy River. The river flows along steep rocky terrain peppered with blackberry bushes.
