About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

Climber Rescued from Mount Piddington, Australia

A climber fell six meters today while rock climbing on Mount Piddington (pictured above), near Victoria in Australia.

Although six meters doesn’t sound that far, his injuries were severe enough that he required emergency surgery. The specifics on his injuries and the details on how he fell have not been released.

Conditions weren’t ideal during the rescue. There were snow showers in the area and it was “bitterly cold.” Remember, it’s winter down there. But rescue crews were still able to pluck the man out of the area with a helicopter and he was transported to a local hospital.
