About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

Father and Son Campers Missing, Believed Drowned in Ohio

A father and son have not been located after they were last seen fishing in shallow waters of Maumee Bay, Ohio.

Shondale Galloway, 33, was camping with his son, Shondale Galloway, Jr, 12, and his two other sons, ages 3 and 5. The father went fishing with his 12-year-old son in shallow waters near the camp site and disappeared.

When the family didn’t return on Monday, Shondale’s wife went to the camp site and found the two younger children alone near the tent.

Authorities believe one of them slipped and the other may have drowned trying to perform a rescue. This is an unfortunate circumstance that happens all over the country every year, said one rescue worker.

Search and rescue members in boats, on foot and canine units have been searching the area for any sign. A canine found a strong scent 80 yards off shore. I didn’t know dogs can smell scents in water.

The search will continue today. Units will continue to use canine units and sonar to see if they can find anything underwater. Read the story here.
