About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

Rock Climber Falls 100 feet from Looking Glass Rock, Survives

A 31-year-old man from Georgia was rappelling down Looking Glass Rock in North Carolina and suddenly fell about 100 feet around 9 p.m. on Monday night.

There are no reports on how or why the man fell. The man suffered cuts, abrasions and lacerations but his injuries are not life threatening – pretty lucky for falling 100 feet. Especially since I’ve seen people die after falling 20 or 30 feet.

Rescue crews had to fight rain and navigate through darkness to find the man. They transported him to a local hospital where he is still recovering.
