Day hikers on the popular Agnes Vaille Falls near Nathrop, Colorado found themselves in the middle of a rock slide today (pictured below).
The two men were on the popular trail around noon when they heard the rock fall start above them. The two men scrambled like roaches in light. One man ran to a canyon wall and the rocks slid right passed him. His friend ducked into a crevice where rocks tumbled over him. The man’s hand was slightly exposed as he held himself in the crevice and it was crushed by a falling rock.
The men made it down the trail on their own and notified a local campground host of the incident. An ambulance was dispatched but the men drove themselves to the hospital.
Search and rescue crews were also dispatched, but it was later determined that the two men were the only ones on the trail. The trail has been closed until officials can assess the new landscape.
