About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

14-Year-Old Rescued from Carter Lake, Colorado

An injured 14-year-old hiker was rescued via helicopter from the Carter Lake area of Colorado. The extent of her injuries and how the accident took place are unknown.

We do know the girl was hiking with a group of 8 to 10 people. One of the adults in the group was carrying a satellite phone and called for help after the accident.

A rescue chopper was dispatched but it was only able to land more than a mile away from the accident. Rescuers had to hike in the rest of the way. The call was placed around 3:25 p.m. The girl was carried out at 1:40 a.m.

The group have been hiking in the area since Saturday. Not sure if they were on multiple day hikes or on an extended backpacking trip.

Sorry there isn’t a lot of details, but I’ll update as they surface. Read the story here.
