About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

Missing Hiker Found on Mount Lamborn, Colorado

A 65-year-old hiker reported missing yesterday was found on Mount Lamborn in Delta County, Colorado.

Sharon Popish-Butcher went on a day hike yesterday on Mount Lamborn with a friend. Around 1:30 p.m., Popish-Butcher fell behind and told her friend that she was just going to hike cross-country back to her home.

When she didn’t return by 6 p.m., her husband called 911 to report her missing. Delta Search and Rescue, West Elk Search and Rescue and Paionia Fire Department worked together to find her. The search was halted at 1 a.m. last night and resumed this morning.

Popish-Butcher was found at 9:30 a.m. She was cold and tired, but otherwise in good condition. The reason for her delayed return was not reported. I can only assume that she was lost, too tired to continue or didn’t feel safe hiking in the dark.
