About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

Teenage Scout Dies on Arthur’s Seat, UK

A 19-year-old accomplished scout died after falling 50 feet from Arthur’s Seat, an 823-foot volcano in Edinburgh, UK.

Mark Muir, who was also an experienced climber who has climbed the equivalent of 60,000 feet, somehow lost his footing and fell. He left the trailhead with a group of friends, but hiked back alone ‘cause he needed to get back sooner.

His body wasn’t found for 24 hours when another hiker spotted the lifeless man. This is the first death on Arthur’s Seat for two years when a Taiwanese schoolboy fell to the bottom of Salisbury Crags.
