Last week I posted a story about a 43-year-old German man who was overdue from a 40-day solo trip through the Northern Rockies in British Columbia. Michael Raster chartered a float plane to a remote area and was supposed to meet the plane 40 days later at Frog Lake. He never showed up for his ride. You could read the original post here.
It is now believed that the man drowned while crossing the South Gataga River. Search and rescue teams found his backpack at Terminus Mountain and a small dry bag with his wallet, maps and passport upstream on the Gataga River.
The map was marked with his path. He camped along the river and authorities believe he drowned while crossing the river or complications from an attempt. The search, which included ground rescues, the Mounties and six aircraft, has been called off pending new information.
