About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

Drunk Hiker Found in Hollis, New Hampshire

A drunk hiker was found after losing his way through a 2-square-mile wooded area near Hollis, New Hampshire. He admitted that alcohol was the primary reason he was lost.

Robert Ferreira was hiking with his friend, Eric Korsak. They were drinking on the trail and at some point they parted ways. Korsak found his way home, but Ferreira got disoriented and was lost in the woods.

His wife reported him missing when he didn’t return home. Roughly 20 search and rescue personnel searched for him. He was located at 1 a.m. about 100 yards from a marked trail and 400 yards from houses.

Authorities said, “He was lucky it wasn’t any colder.” But I’m sure those brews would’ve kept him warm for a while.
