A hiker reported missing after two weeks in the wilderness was found dead in Glacier National Park.
The man was believed to be on a solo two-week trip through the park. An acquaintance helped the man drop off luggage at a local hotel, then dropped the hiker off at the park.
When the man originally arrived at the park, he was unaware that he would need a permit. Even with the newfound information, the man never filled out a backcountry permit so rangers had no idea where to find him and when he was expected out.
Two weeks later, when the luggage wasn’t picked up at the local hotel, authorities were alerted of the possibility that the man was still in the park.
An aerial and ground search began in the park and shortly after, a body was found near Kintla Lake (pictured above).

UPDATE: The man’s death was recently ruled a suicide. Park officials said the man died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Although I usually don’t post stories of suicides in the backcountry, I already posted the original story and wanted to update everybody.
