About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

Elderly Hiker Passes Out in Cave Creek Regional Park, Arizona

An old woman felt dizzy then passed out while hiking the Go John Trail in Cave Creek Regional Park in Arizona.

The woman started the 5.8-mile loop hike earlier in the day when the weather was mild. But the sun became stronger the longer the day went. Eventually, the temperatures were warm and dehydration became a problem.

Another factor in the incident was the woman recently moved to Arizona and wasn’t acclimatized to the warm temperatures and dry weather.

The fire department was called out to rescue the woman. They provided her water and she was able to walk out on her own. Firefighters escorted the woman out as a precaution.
