Two parents and two children, ages 6 and 8, were rescued after becoming stuck on a cliff in Silverado Canyon, Orange County.
The four were hiking up a steep hillside and suddenly became stuck 400 feet above the canyon floor. They were unable to continue and unsure if they could backtrack safely.
At 4:06 p.m., just minutes before sundown, one of the parents called a friend who then called the fire department. Fire officials sent 16 personnel including two fire engines, a SAR truck, a patrol truck and a helicopter to the scene.
After a quick assessment of the situation, firefighters decided to airlift the family to safety. The aerial rescue took an astounding 15 minutes.
None of the family members were injured. They were safely dropped off and released.
