About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

Five German Hikers Rescued from Blizzard in Tyrol

Thanks to Bergschlawiner of Seattle Mountain Rescue for submitting this story.

A group of five German hikers between the ages of 21 and 22 were heading towards a mountain shelter in the vicinity of Telfs at 3:00 pm when they lost their way in a blizzard after hiking for four hours.

They were exhausted and disoriented so they made a cell phone call for help. The Bergrettung Telfs mountain rescuers rescued them and brought them uninjured to an inn at 9:30 pm.
