About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

Hiker Falls 20 Meters When Monkey Attempts to Snatch Nuts

A 46-year-old hiker was chased by a monkey that was trying to snatch a bag of nuts the woman was holding. During the hiker’s attempted escape, the woman fell 20 meters into the Hong Kong reservoir and suffered injuries to her head, arms and legs.

The woman was hiking with a group through Shing Mun Country Park in Hong Kong. During the hike, a group of monkeys began pestering them for food. One of the monkeys then lunged at the hiker for the nuts, the chase ensued.

The country park is home to 2,100 monkeys. The number of monkeys has risen sharply mostly due to visitors feeding the monkeys.

In September, a 25-year-old woman was mugged by a monkey for a box of egg tarts.

Don’t feed the animals!
