About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

4 Mountain Bikers Rescued near St. Mary’s Lake, Maryland

An adult male and four kids – ages 7, 8 and 12 – needed help when they got lost on a bike trail near St. Mary’s Lake in Maryland. The four set out on an easy stroll around the lake and couldn’t make their way back to the car as dusk fell. They had no water and called for help.

Foot teams and rescue boats were sent to the area. About one hour later, one of the boats spotted the group and had them board a life raft. The adult and kids were all in good condition. The boats returned the group to their cars about an hour and a half after the ordeal began.
