A 12-year-old boy and his 66-year-old grandfather from Vienna required rescue on the Hutterer Höss in Hinterstoder (pictured above) after becoming disoriented in steep terrain while skiing down the mountain at 3:30 pm. They took a shortcut and went out of bounds. When they found themselves on steep terrain, they were unable to go descend nor ascend.
The grandfather made an emergency cell phone call to the police which started a search by the Bergrettung mountain rescue volunteers, the police and the ski area workers. At 5:30 pm the rescuers found the pair at 1,500 meters elevation and brought them safely off the mountain.
