About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

Llanberis Mountain Rescue Performs 100th Rescue of 2008

Llanberis Mountain Rescue based in the UK performed its 100th rescue this year when three men became stranded on Crib Goch (pictured above) in Snowdonia National Park.

The three students, aged between 18 and 23, became stuck high on the ridge and were cold and didn’t feel safe continuing or turning back. They were ill-equipped and uncomfortable in the weather.

A Sea King Royal Air Force chopper was immediately dispatched to the scene and plucked the stranded hikers from the ridge. They were brought to safety and didn’t suffer any injuries aside from the bruised egos.
