Who: A group of experienced skiers
Where: On the trail to Goodwin-Greene Hut south of Aspen Mountain
Their mistake: Should’ve respected the weather. They were caught in whiteout conditions and got lost.
What happened: A group of seven experienced skiers planned to ski to the Goodwin-Greene Hut, but were suddenly caught in a whiteout. One of the skiers became separated from the group and skied to a lower elevation.
He was able to make a phone call to authorities who quickly launched snowmobile teams to find the skiers.
The next morning, the group of skiers were found. It is unclear where they slept overnight and how they survived. Threats of avalanche were considerable during the event, but it doesn’t seem like anything slid during the ordeal. None of the skiers were injured. Would love to hear how they survived overnight.
