About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

Rock Climber Dies in Tennessee

Who: Jesse David Brude, 23, of Harrison
Where: Prentice Cooper State Forest, Tennessee
His mistake: It was ruled an accident, but we’re not sure of the details
What happened: A climber told his family he was going climbing and never returned. Family members said the man occasionally would go on trips and wouldn’t be heard from in days.

On Wednesday, his brother went looking for his brother and found his body at the bottom of a cliff. The man was said to be an avid climber and had all of the equipment. Although the incident was ruled an accident, it is unclear if the accident was caused by equipment failure or something as simple as a hold falling out. Details to come if they surface.
