About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

Three Die in Scottish Avalanche

Who: Three avid hikers and climbers
Where: Buchaille Etive Mhor, Scotland
Their mistake: Bad luck, unfortunately
What happened: Nine hikers were climbing the mountain when an avalanche hit the group. Three hikers were killed, one injured their shoulder and five others were able to walk away from the ordeal unscathed.

Another hiker who witnessed the events unfold from above the avalanche, immediately called authorities who launched a search and rescue even though the area was hit by a blizzard.

Authorities said that all people on the mountain are accounted for and there are no more reports of missing people.

The area was hit by heavy snow for two days before the avalanche. The warnings in the area said there was a “considerable” chance for an avy.
