What happened: A man and his friend were bivouacking together on the southern range of the Low Tatra mountains when they decided to split up and meet back at a Magurka chalet.
One man made it back and when his friend didn’t return, he called mountain rescue. 14 rescuers searched for the man several times over many days with no luck. Parts of the search were delayed or temporarily halted due to bad weather. Eventually, the man was found dead. He was 50 meters from the peak of Durkova mountain and one kilometer from a mountain lodge. The cause of death is unknown.
Rescuers carried the body down the same evening.
