About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

Who: Norwegian climber, Jarle Traa
Where: Mt. Everest
His mistake: None here. He just pushed his body a little too far.
What happened: A Norwegian climber who successfully climbed to the summit of Mt. Everest without supplemental oxygen suffered from serious frostbite and low body temperature on the way down. The man was kept at base camp for several days waiting for transportation. A chopper rescue was not available, so a Jeep was brought in to transport the injured climber from base camp into town. A spokesperson for the climber said his condition is improving.
