Who: An 11-year-old girl scout
Where: Santa Cruz Mountains, California
Her mistake: It’s unknown how she got lost
What happened: A girl scout went missing from the Cutter Scout Reservation camp while out on a group outing. It is unclear if the girl was hiking or just wandering around camp.
Multiple search and rescue crews were dispatched to the scene. One rescue crew saw footprints and followed them until they made voice contact. 20 hours later, they found the girl. She was pale, cold, hungry and a little wet. Otherwise, she was in good condition.
Rescue crews hiked the girl out where they met with the girl’s mother.

The girl got in an argument with her mother and younger sister and ran off. She continued to run until she couldn’t go any further, found a rock and fell asleep. She was found in a drainage with very severe vegetation overgrowth. Extrication took over three hours.
