About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

Search for American Boy Ends in Switzerland

Who: A 12-year-old boy from Indiana
Where: Truemmelbach waterfalls, Switzerland
His mistake: It’s unknown.
What happened: A 12-year-old boy is missing in a popular tourist hiking spot in Switzerland. The boy and his family were in the area, but it is unknown how the boy fell into the water. Other visitors saw someone in the rapids below the falls after reports of the missing boy spread. It is unknown if the person in the rapids is the missing boy.

Rescuers were unable to get into the river because of its high water flow. Lookouts were placed at key parts of the river. Rescuers did find the boy’s shoe washed up on the side of the river. The family is still clinging on to hope that the boy may have survived the fall, but local rescuers are ending the formal search and rescue.
