About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

Hiker Missing for Three Days

Who: 60-year-old Donald Lee
Where: Warm Springs Mountain, Angeles National Forest, California
His mistake: He was alone, but it’s unsure right now of any other mistakes
What happened: A man on a solo 3-day hike has now been missing for three days. The man called his girlfriend on Sunday to let her know that he was on his way back, but with an injured knee. But he reassured her he would be OK since he lightened his pack and was able to hike out.

That was the last communication with the man and his girlfriend alerted authorities when she didn’t hear from him later. Search and rescue teams are looking for the man. He was due out by Sunday. Searchers are on foot, in the air and riding all terrain vehicles searching for the man. They are concentrating on a 30-mile radius around Warm Springs Mountain.
