About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

UPDATE: Missing Hiker with Injured Knee Found

Who: Donald Lee of Lake Hughes
Where: Near Warm Springs, Angeles National Forest
His mistake: Not sure. But there is good news
What happened: A man was on a solo 3-day trip and called his girlfriend to inform her that he injured his knee, but lightened his pack and was able to continue. The man was not heard from after the cell phone call and his girlfriend reported him missing.

Searchers on foot and in the air went looking for the man and found him at the Cienega Campground. He was slightly dehydrated, but in otherwise good condition. It is unclear if the man was unable to continue because of his bum knee or if other problems arose. I’ll post more information if it’s interesting.
