Who: Susan Schwartz
Where: Mount Falcon Park, Colorado
Her mistake: Not sure.
What happened: A woman hiking a popular trail in Colorado was bitten just below her knee by a rattlesnake. The woman tied a band around her leg to prevent the venom from spreading. She was able to hike a mile before she found help. A park ranger called 911 and the woman was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Authorities advise people who are bitten by rattlesnakes to limit activity after being bitten. Activity accelerates the spread of venom. It is unclear if the woman had a cell phone. And if she did, if there was cell phone service where she was bitten.

If there's no cell service (and there usually isn't where we hike), and you can't just wait for help to come along, I guess there's nothing else to do but walk back. Lucky it was only a mile!
