About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

Missing Hiker in Northern California Found

Who: 48-year-old Richard Morgan
Where: Between the Pine Creek Trailhead and Fresno, California
His mistake: It’s unknown. Looks like he just got delayed
What happened: A man hiking alone on a 10-day trip was reporting missing Tuesday when he didn’t return from a hike. He was expected back the day before. The man set out on July 18th and planned to make several side trips in and around Fresno. At least part of his route was along the Pacific Crest Trail.

Twelve deputies, three volunteers and a chopper assisted in the search. On Wednesday morning, the man was found. He was in good condition. The man refused a ride and elected to hike the final leg of the trail to his car instead.
