About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

Teens Rescued from Cliff

Who: an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old woman
Where: Near Mary’s Lake, Big Cottonwood Canyon, Utah
Their mistake: She just slipped and had a bad ball
What happened: A couple of teens were scrambling and hiking on a technical trail when the woman slipped and slid down the mountain head first. Authorities said she was falling and her foot caught a root or a rock and sent her down. During the tumble, the woman said she thought she was going to die. When she came to rest, she was alive.

Search and rescue responded and gave some aid to the woman, but miraculously the woman and man were able to walk out under their own power.
