About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

Dehydrated Hiker Found Safe

Who: A 43-year-old woman
Where: Koksilah Park, British Columbia
Her mistake: Looks like poor planning
What happened: A woman on a spiritual hike by herself for a few days ran into some problems on the second day. She ran out of water and was forced to make a phone call to her friend.

The lost and dehydrated hiker was able to give her friend a rough description of her surroundings. Her friend was able to relay the information to authorities. Within hours, search and rescue teams were able to locate the dehydrated hiker. Other than the lack of water, the woman was fine.

Authorities said she was in excellent shape and had the proper gear for her trip. She just didn’t bring enough water.
