About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

UPDATE: Man Missing on Red Mountain Found with Fewer Teeth

Who: 49-year-old Jim Williamson
Where: Red Mountain, Utah
His mistake: Looks like he took a fall
What happened: A man called his wife on Sunday to tell his wife that he made a wrong turn on the trail and was running out of water. His wife called for help. Shortly after, authorities suspect the man’s cell phone died because they were unable to reach him.

Two days later, rescuers located the man. He tumbled off the trail and into a brushy area. It is unclear how far he fell, but most of his teeth were knocked out in the fall. A chopper was sent into the area to transport the toothless man to a local hospital.
