About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

3 Hikers Rescued in Three Sisters Area

Photobucket
Who: 24-year-old Michael Brick, 24-year-old Matthew Schweizer and 22-year-old Mark Johnson
Where: Three Sisters area, Oregon
Their mistake: Looks like they just got lost
What happened: In two separate incidents, three hikers required rescue in the Three Sisters area.

In the first incident, two hikers were reported lost in the Tam MacArthur Rim area (pictured above). Rescuers were able to locate the men by tracking their cell phone signal. Yet while rescuers were attempting to locate the men, they continued to hike to find a way out. Rescuers eventually lost their signal and had to send in searchers on horses to locate them. The dingbats were eventually located and escorted to safety.

In another incident, a solo hiker was reported overdue near the Morraine Lake and Green Lake area. Searchers in off-road vehicles, on foot and horseback scoured the area. The man was able to hike out on his own and was located by searchers at 9:45 p.m. Authorities said the man got lost twice on his way back to his car. He wasn’t hurt and in good shape.
