About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

Search Continuing for Missing Teen

Who: 13-year-old Andrew Webster
Where: Near Mabbit Springs, Tennessee
His mistake: It’s unknown, but it looks like he went out alone
What happened: A 13-year-old Boy Scout, described as a “savvy hiker,” has gone missing after he went off into the woods by himself after school.

His mother said the boy is familiar with the trails around their house, but it is unclear if the boy frequently went on hikes by himself. A friend of the boy found his socks on a hiking trail, but no other sign of him.

Search crews are working feverishly to find the boy. They have hiked up and down Mabbit Springs, and they plan on retracing their steps today. Rain in the area has tapered off and will help rescuers. Updates to come soon.
