About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

Teen Climber Falls From Beachside Cliff

Who: A 16-year-old boy
Where: Point St. George, California
His mistake: It’s unknown. Looks like a mis-step
What happened: A 16-year-old boy was climbing on the cliffs on Point St. George. His mother said he was an experienced climber, but it was unclear if he was on a vertical face or if he was just scrambling up the rock.

He successfully made it to the top of his climb and started hiking down when he slipped and fell about 20 feet down the hill. He was unconscious and suffered a serious head wound. Authorities responded and hauled him up the hill. He was transported to a local hospital. His injuries are unknown.
