About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

Woman Survives 14 Hours in Wilderness

Photobucket
Who: 34-year-old Taryn Grant
Where: Lynn Canyon Park, British Columbia, Canada
Her mistake: She got stuck in steep terrain
What happened: A woman was on a day hike on her own through a park. During her hike, she somehow got stuck in a steep and rock slope. It is unclear if she was on or off trail. All she had was a small light and a few provisions. But she didn’t have sufficient clothing or shelter for a cold night.

When the woman didn’t return home, her family called authorities and reported her overdue. Search and rescue teams were dispatched and used parachute flares and loud horns to try and get the woman’s attention.

By the next morning, the woman was found. A chopper was brought in to rescue the woman. She was in good shape when she was found.
