About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

DEVELOPING STORY: 3 Missing Hikers in Sequoia Mountains Found Safe

Photobucket
Who: Lanier Rogers and brothers Jacob and Jordan Zeman
Where: Cedar Grove, Kings Canyon National Park
Their mistake: Looks like they just got delayed
What happened: Three hikers set out for a 65-mile, one-week trip through Kings Canyon National Park. A family member reported them overdue when they didn’t return on time. Park rangers along with search and rescue teams started a search and found them the next day. The rescue was hampered by a heavy rain storm overnight, but were able to conduct a full-scale search with foot and air teams on Wednesday.

The men were found simply four miles from the trailhead in the Cedar Grove area. They were in good health, but it is unclear if the men will be hauled out or if they will just be escorted out by foot. It is also unclear if the men were simply delayed because of the rain storm or if they took extra time on their hike. Updates coming soon.
