Who: An American man
Where: Mt. Abrupt, Australia
His mistake: Not sure. He might not have placed his gear correctly
What happened: A rock climber was out with some friends on Mt. Abrupt. At some point of the climb, the man fell from a cliff face. It seems like some protection dislodged from the rock when he fell. The man swung from the rock and back into it. He suffered two broken wrists and serious head injuries. Authorities said his wrist injuries were from the man trying to protect himself from the slam.
Two of the man’s friend lowered the injured climber down to safety and called for help. Rescue teams arrived on scene and elected to airlift the man out. The chopper rescue, which took 15 to 20 minutes, would have taken three to four hours if the rescue was carried out on the ground.
