About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

Two Lost Hikers Find Safety in 48 Hours

Photobucket
Who: 43-year-old Brooks Scheevers and 73-year-old Francis Scheevers
Where: Sycamore Canyon, Arizona
Their mistake: They just got lost
What happened: Two men, originally reported to be women probably because of their names, went on a day hike through Sycamore Canyon. One of the men called his wife at 4 p.m. to say they were leaving the car and are going to return later that night.

When the men didn’t return home, the wife called for help. Deputies and the Coconino County Search and Rescue team were dispatched and looked for the men to no avail. The men apparently became disoriented in the canyon and couldn’t find their way back to the car.

48 hours later, the men emerged from the canyon unscathed and in good health. They were escorted out of the area to safety.
