About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

2 Hikers Lost in Snow Rescued

Photobucket
Who: Patrick Shortall and Joseph Polakovic, both of Boulder
Where: Green Mountain, Colorado
Their mistake: They got lost in the snow. Not sure how.
What happened: Two hikers went on a dayhike in the Green Mountain with fresh snow on the ground. During their hike, they got disoriented and couldn’t find the trail. It is unclear why they couldn’t find their footprints, or maybe wind covered their tracks behind them. Or maybe it’s typical early snow season hiking and there were a zillion different tracks scattered on the mountain.

Either way, the hikers used a cell phone to call for help. The Boulder Fire Department and the Rocky Mountain Rescue group responded and found the men. They were uninjured and escorted back to safety.
