About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

Hiker Rescued from Y-Mountain

Photobucket
Who: 23-year-old Samuel Cannon
Where: Y-Mountain, Provo, Utah
His mistake: He was hiking alone and lost the trail
What happened: A man was hiking alone on Y-Mountain in Provo. During the man’s hike, he lost the trail, but continued to head forward. Too bad he ended up on a ledge on a steep cliff and unable to safely go down or climb back up.

The man clung to the ledge and called for help on his cell phone. Rescuers arrived and used a rope system to lower him 30 feet off the ledge and down to safety at the base of the cliff. It is unknown if the man suffered any injuries during the incident.
