About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

Hikers Lost in Dark Found With Cell Phone

Photobucket
Who: Chris Price of Hebron, KY and Jerry Rose of Corbin
Where: Dogslaughter Falls trail, Kentucky
Their mistake: They took a night hike and lost their flashlight
What happened: Two lovebirds went on a hike on the Dogslaughter Falls trail near Cumberland Falls.

When the sun set, the couple realized their flashlight was lost. Luckily, the couple had a cell phone and called 911. They were even smart enough to stay put until they were found. Authorities assembled a search team and were able to use the GPS coordinates in the phone to get within 100 meters of their location.

Searchers eventually found them about a quarter-mile from the trailhead. They were in good condition and escorted to safety.
