About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

Lost Family in Little Grand Canyon Rescue

Photobucket
Who: 42-year-old John Bizzell, his 13-year-old daughter and his 9-year-old niece
Where: Little Grand Canyon, Illinois
Their mistake: They just got lost
What happened: A father, his teenage daughter and his 9-year-old niece went for a hike in Little Grand Canyon. During their hike, the trio got lost and were unable to find their way back to their car.

A family member became worried when the group didn’t return by nightfall and called for help. Sheriff’s deputies, firefighters and forest rangers began a search for the group and found them at 8:30 p.m. stranded on a small bluff.

The group was escorted out to safety. There were no reports of injuries.
