Who: A 58-year-old man, a 61-year-old man and a 26-year-old man
Where: Wester Ross mountain, UK
Their mistake: They got lost and split up
What happened: Three men went on a day hike on Wester Ross mountain in the UK. During their hike, the men got lost and for some reason decided to split up even though they only had one map and the sun had already set.
You guessed it, the man with the map was able to find his way back to the trailhead. He reported his two friends missing. Rescuers began a search immediately. Another one of the men made his way to safety and was located by rescuers.
The other was nowhere to be found. He hiked around and found an outcropping that provided him shelter for the night. He was also carrying warm clothes to last him through the night. The next morning, rescuers found the man. He was uninjured, cold and embarrassed – essentially in good condition. The hiker was escorted to safety and did not require hospital treatment.

From the article it sounds like the group split off from the one with the map before anyone was lost. Then later the two who had become lost split up. Perhaps a spat about which way to go?
