Where: Leiva Peak, Murcia’s Sierra Espuna, Spain
His mistake: Not sure what caused the fall
What happened: A man and two additional climbers were on an ascent to the Leiva Peak, part of the Sierra Espuna mountains in Spain. The group was 30 meters from the summit when one of the men fell. The man fell onto a ledge about 100 meters above the ground. He was unconscious and bleeding from his head.
Authorities were called and a rescue team launched a helicopter. The chopper was able to pluck the injured mountaineer to safety. The other two mountaineers also needed a chopper ride out. One of the remaining climbers was treated for shock after seeing his friend plunge down the mountain.
