What happened: Two rock climbers were spending the day at Chinaman’s Bluff, a popular rock climbing area in Queenstown, New Zealand. It is unknown what kind of trouble the men ran into, but friends reported them overdue the same night when they didn’t come back from their trip.
Search and rescue teams began a search overnight by using audio calls to locate the men. They were unsuccessful. The next morning, authorities launched additional ground searchers and an aerial search. A team of ground searchers found the body of one of the climbers at the bass of Chinaman’s Bluff. The other climber was found alive on a ledge 200 meters up the cliff. He was stranded on the cliff and spent the night there. It is unclear what happened.
