About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

Teen Buried in Colorado Avalanche

Photobucket
Who: A teenage skier
Where: Bartlett Peak, Copper Mountain, Colorado
His mistake: Not sure if he checked snow stability, but who knows what happened
What happened: A teen skier planned on carving turns near Copper Mountain on the northeast side of Bartlett Peak. The teen went and did about five or six turns before a large 500-foot avalanche broke 50 feet above him.

After the avy settled, the teen was buried up to his neck. His friends skied down and dug him out and called for help. The teen suffered a broken leg and was hauled out by the Summit County Rescue Group.
