About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

Where: Mountains near Nederland, Colorado
His mistake: He went alone, but ultimately it’s unknown

When the family hadn’t heard from him for some time, they called for help. Family members said it is unlike him to go for so long without contacting family or friends. Authorities found the man’s campsite where they found a tent, boot liners, a camera and taekwondo belts.

Authorities believe he went for a day hike from his campsite to take photos. Although the man is an experienced hiker, the man didn’t bring his snow boots and only brought enough gear that fit into a backpack.

Roughly 60 rescuers responded from Rocky Mountain Search and Rescue, Front Range Rescue Dogs and Boulder County Mounted Horse Search and Rescue Team are currently searching for the man. The man is 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighs 150 pounds, has long blonde hair, blue eyes and wearing a red and black flannel jacket, blue jeans and skate shoes.
